The NAIDP, also known as the National Automobile Industry Development Plan, has made it clear to the stakeholders of the automotive sector of Nigeria that there will be an Automotive Sector Upgrade Plan that will take place before the beginning of 2023.
Watching the current condition of the Nigerian state, the Leader of the Automotive Sector Development Council gave the plan insurance during the workshop related to the annual NAJA practice in Lagos.
The plan is to implement a new and creative technique to counter vehicle needs and to provide spare parts for auto repairs. In terms of electric vehicles, the young generation will be provided with sufficient knowledge and training to make them able to assist with future repairs for Electric Vehicles. For such to happen, the government is taking its time to consider all the matters.
Doing so will result in the creation of many new job opportunities. The skilled and trained candidates might even go abroad to learn more things and for experience. The concept of Electric Vehicles being the future is quite true by observing the current distorted image of gas-powered cars. Solar technologies will also assist with the production of electricity for Electric Vehicles.
The plan is to make the development of the automotive sector a law so that it will undergo no matter the circumstances. Nigerian have waited a long time for such development, and finally, the citizens might be able to afford and ride Electric Cars for their everyday use.
Unfortunately, high petroleum prices have destroyed the public transportation sector in most African countries, including Nigeria. However, the implementation of such technologies might be the right solution for it.
In Nigeria, foreign companies own more than 90% of the gas stations, while others are privately owned. So when the shift to Electric Vehicles takes place, these privately owned companies have to update their gas-powered stations to electric-powered ones as the demand for such stations will increase.
Aside from this, the government will not take any measures to convert the stations; it will do its best to implement the latest technologies and modern staff.
Aside from the vehicles, the government also heard that initiatives would be taken to stop rapidly increasing pollution daily. New recycling ways will be implemented to meet the basic needs of the civilians through the waste and used items such as plastic bottles and bags etc.
The main reason, aside from the high petroleum prices, was to reduce the ongoing pollution in Nigeria by implementing Electric Vehicles. Reduction of pollution will lead to fewer infections and diseases among the citizens. Also, Nigeria will be able to fill the gap to a great extent that is currently existing between it and other modern countries.
